Default P4 to Dual Core

3 years ago I bought a eMachines with a 3.06 ghz P4 519cpu, 1/2 gig
pc 2700 ram,160 gig hd,and dvd burner.

Over time,I have upgraded to dual 160 gb sata hard drives,a new mobo(intel 945gcpe),and 2 gigs 533mhz ddr2 ram.

Now i'm going to up the cpu,and was wondering how much more performance would i get from a Intel Pentium dual core e2200
(2.0 ghz 1 mb cache).

I have tried Toms hardware page, but can't get a comparison
between the two.

Default P4 to Dual Core

Skip the 'dual cores' and go straight to the 'Core 2 Duos'

They are proper dual core cpus and will be a noticeable to massive difference depending on clock speed.

Default P4 to Dual Core

I would normally agree with that,except i'm on a very limited budget(under 100 bucks).

So its gonna be either a celeron dc e1200 or 2.0 ghz
e2180.

I'm not doing too intensive work, just a decent replacement for
the p4 519 "blast furnace" thats in there now.

Would a celeron dc give performance at least on par with my p4?

Celerons are cut down P4's, so no, a celeron will offer much less performance.

Also Core 2 Duos are available from $100ish and trust me spending your money on anything else is a waste! You might as well stay as you are.
