Default P4 Prescott 515 2.93GHz and MSI P6NGM Mobo Compatible?

Hi guys, i was wondering if this cpu would fit into this motherboard

The cpu is P4 Prescott 515 2.93GHz and the mobo is MSI P6NGM

I know it will fit Socket 775 LGA as i have had a Q6600 in it, but with this older Intel p4 ,even though it is a socket 775 LGA, will it still work or is there something slightly different from old lga 775 to new one like a quad or duel cores.

regards

Well the processor will fit but I'm not sure if that board is HyperThreading capable or not, I assume it would be but I'm not sure.

Not sure if the P4 is hyperthreaded with that model..

Can I ask why you'd even want to put that crummy old thing in?

Nope, no difference to the socket.

I think there's compatibility issues with old mobos not handling new CPU's, because they can't handle FSB speed and things like that, but the other way round should be fine.

to my understanding, 775 boards built in the dual/quad core era are backwards compatible with P4 775's, but boards built before dual's and quad's came out are not forwards compatible.

Thanks for reply Razer, yes you can ask and reason why this came about is that , my mate had his computer stollen and in the process of it being taking out the door, my mate pulled up in his car and the pc was dropped, this is over 2yrs ago now, however he has since started to use it again now.

His mobo is kinda busted with that the pcie slot is broken off and the cpu holding is busted aswell and his temps are 75c

so he asked me last night is there some kinda motherboard i could get for him and when i asked what socket it was, it turned out to be the one am using atm ,only am running a Q6600.

So i have that MSI board laying spare since ages and i thought would be a good idea to put that old prescott into this new mobo and that would also bring ta gain of moving from ddr to ddr2 aswell. Am just really glad to here from you guys that this is indeed possible

Regards
