Pentium Dual Core Vs Core 2 Duo

I know that the core 2 duo would be better out of the two, but what would be the main difference, between them, obviously they could achieve the same clock speed, but what other differences is there.

As far as I know dual core is just two old p4's stuck together.

Core 2 Duo is a proper dual core and thus runs faster and more efficient.

If you get a core 2 duo make sure you get the new 45mn 1333mhz bus models as they are using the new architecture.

If looking for for Dual Core processing in laptops, the Core 2 Duo, like dave said, is more efficient, thus extending battery life. The centrino duo is better still.

The main differences are less pipeline stages in the Duo's (meaning less latency and therefore better performance per mhz) smaller switch-distance meaning less wattage to run (promoting battery life in lappy's) and less waste heat produced.
