Hello, I am new to this forum and I am looking for some help with this this processor I want to get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103674 . I am looking for help to find a good HIGH end motherboard, ram, and graphics card for it. I will be doing almost everything with this build (low-mid gaming, video editing, photo editing, school work, videos, practically EVERYTHING). Thanks!!

Did you check out Carbon's Guide?

This is one of his reccommended builds, and the one I recon probably closest to doing what you describe, and conveniently, using an X4.

MIDRANGE VIDEO RENDERING/WORKSTATION
- [A3, B1, C2, D3, E1]

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 940 & Motherboard: Gigabyte 790X-UD4P ($270 with combo deal) (FS)
Video: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4770 ($110)
RAM: OCZ Gold 8GB (4 x 2GB) DDR2 ($93) (FS)
PSU: Corsair 400CX ($50) (R -$10) (FS)
Optical: Sony Optiarc 24X ($24) (FS)
HDD: 2x Western Digital 640GB ($140) (FS)
Case: Antec P182 ($145)

TOTAL: $833 before $10 in rebates = $823

Res? Budget? How much will you be doing "video editing"? Usually an X4 is kind of wasted for anybody that doesn't do it at least as a serious hobby.

I guess budgets fairly high/unlimited unless you're hoping for "HIGH END" stuff for pence?

Since he wants to do mid gaming as well, I'd say a X3 720. Enough cores without being daft, runs games as good as any Intel chip and is cheap.

I don't suppose the motherboard has to cost 9597840987 as long as it's a reputable one with no known faults. As long as it houses all the stuff he needs, doesn't HAVE to be expensive.

Any good quality DDR2 will be fine, 800MHz or more, your choice.

I think for the money saved on the lower processor, it's well worth a bit of a wait in video compilation.

Stick with the 4770 and have a happy time with a system that will go and go and go.

4770 isn't really in stock anywhere in the US and rebates make the 4850 cheaper, so I've stopped recommending it. But yeah, motherboard wise getting something 'high end' doesn't really get you anything.

A mate of mine runs the 4850 on a single slot with no 6pin PCI-e adapter. Does the affect performance? I'm fairly sure you can't overclock it without the power cord though..

It won't affect performance, but it should probably be screaming at you and/or not work, unless it is specifically designed for low power usage (some HTPC cards are like this), those power slots should be occupied. I'd worry about damaging the card.

Yeah, he only noticed as he was putting the top of the case on after re-assmebling his system. Was only running for a matter of minutes before hand. He then shut down, powered off and plugged it in. All seems well with it. Just thought it was a bit odd considering it used to be a flagship ati card (I think) which says to me it's need a lot of juice.

He didnt run a game or anything, just vista. Maybe it's a power saving feature when the card isn't being thrashed..

Ah, okay. Thought he was using it 24/7 like that. No worries then.

Usually, though, what happens is the motherboard emits a really loud screaming siren sound. I am completely serious here.
