Default Processor choice

I am trying to build an uber computer. I have about $1,000.00 to spend and would like to know the best processor that is atleast under $200. I have thought about either going with an intel core 2 duo, amd dual core , or intel Zeon dual core. I would like to know the best processor for tha cheapest in other words. any help appreciated.

Well AMDs are cheaper, for example you could get an athlon x2 6400 (3.2ghz in each core) for the same price of a core 2 duo with 2.33ghz in each core. however you could argue that intel processors have great overclocking potential where as AMDs dont.

as for performance intel processors offer better performance than AMDs in most areas when compared with identical frequencies, but with price over performance ratios AMD wins there.

so if cost really isnt a problem go for a nice intel motherboard and core 2 duo but if price is a problem go for amd.
