Yes, but the original Phenoms are terrible.

Ah, I see it probably would not be any better then the Phenom triple core 8650 processor I am running now. any ideas what might be a better upgrade from the phenom 8650 from New Egg? my daughter needs a tower built and I thought maybe I could upgrade mine, and use it for her build. good to hear from you again Carbon.

Well, if you're going to have it lying around by all means stick the old Phenom into her computer. For yours, though, the other Phenom is a terrible bet. Unless you're doing heavily threaded stuff, the X3 720 should be about perfect for you. Cheap, fast, versatile.

Hi Carbon, got the Phenom II X3 720BE installed along with this cooler and it idles at 30 degrees C. and surfs the net around 34 degrees C. at 3GHZ. so far, it's for sure an upgrade from the other CPU. Thanks!
