Default Processor Temperature is Wrong?

Default Processor Temperature is Wrong?

Having recently invested in some software to see some temperatures of my PC, I thought all was fine. Turns out I was wrong. It sat idle at 40 degrees (Stop laughing!) and I thought "Well, it's old, I'll get over it" but I ran Hyper PI with 32 million numbers, took about 30 mins to do about 24 or so loops, CPU usage for processor 0 and processor 1 (HTT) were both at 100% for the duration of the calculation said task manager and I thought it was fine, I looked at my temperature again and it was still 40 degrees.. The fan didn't speed up, there was no noise change at all or temperature change and I'm quite worried that if I have my PC under load a lot playing games etc, then I will damage it because the fan isn't removing heat as quickly as it would need to. Reckon I have old broken hardware or my P4 is just great at not getting hot? =P

Any help would be great! =)

Default Processor Temperature is Wrong?

Easier said than done, I have one of these BIOS' that suck. It's limited, can't change anything on it. I can just about change the speed of AGP, let alone fan speeds, temperatures etc.

Default Processor Temperature is Wrong?

Just found out the program is rubbish and doesn't work.

SpeedFan gives me the following (worrying) results:

Fire is a bad thing right? Plus, the speed of the fan on the left makes no difference to the fan at all..

It sounds like your processor has a bad thermal sensor.

Most CPUs won't overheat in usage anyway so I wouldn't worry about it.

Good, new PC should arrive in the next few weeks and I was worried that leaving this on most of the time for running various bits (Lan games, file server etc) would cause damage to it, or me or my house lol. Thanks anyway guys!

just dont hit it in frustration, that would damage both it and you, then in your frustation you would throw the pc across the room, and probably cause damage to your house

on speedfan you set tolerances that the temps should be between, they all come set as default when you first install it, theyre easy to change in the config. the picture relates to how well the temp is within the (possibly wrong) tolerance,
