Dell320 is on a distinguished road
Default Processors

Hi good evening guys. New to the forum and big computer noob. My thread pertains to issues dealing with processors and motherboard support. Im currently running a Dell Optiplex 320 (Desktop version) Celeron D 3.06 Ghz processor w/ 1 GB Ram. I'd like to upgrade to a much more responsive and efficient processor, particularly a Pentium 4 w/ HT or an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I've learned that my system runs an RS400 motherboard. I'd like to know if this motherboard supports these type of processors. Lately I've had my eyes on the following:

1) Pentium 4 HT 524, 631, SL6WJ
2) Intel Core 2 Duo E6300, E6700

My apologies for the noobness, but if you guys could steer me in the right direction and help me find out if any of these would work, I would greatly appreciate it. I am also open to recommendations, as I said im looking for a more responsive and more efficient running processor. I mainly use my computer for school tasks, multi-tasking and light gaming. Any help, advice and recommendations that you guys have on the matter I would sincerely appreciate. Thanks again

Javier

The Core 2 Duo will work (as you're currently using Socket 775) and is much better than the Pentium 4.

The 6700 isn't worth it - get the 6420 instead. You'll get 2MB more cache (versus the 6300) and you won't have to pay the exorbitant price of the 6700 (twice the price of the 6300).
