I have been running the folding@home graphical client for a good while now but recently took the plunge into the SMP version. I constantly monitor my CPU temps as its OC'd. Running the graphical client it never budged from 40'C but now that I have loaded it 100% after a couple of days it can hit the following,
Core 0, 68 Core 1, 66 Core 2, 60 Core 3, 60 To begin with I assumed my Tuniq tower wasn't seated correctly so I re sat it and everything is still the same. I have commented in the past that this is nothing to worry about, temp wise, and am o.k with these particular temps. My question is, What is the crack with cores 0 and 1? Is this normal? Advice on how I can reduce this will me greatly appriciated as always. Keith. |

Don't use coretemp, it's pretty horrible as far as reliable temperatures go (Tmax is all messed up). Try Intel Thermal Analysis Tool and see if you have the same difference in temps between the cores.
Uneven compound spreading might do it too, but if you've reseated it..

Thanks for the reply carbon, Yes the readings are the same with the intel tool.
I'm gonna reseat it again and might consider some lapping while its off, I'll let you know the outcome. Keith. |

Lapped both the cpu and the Tuniq tower and am glad to say that it has reduced the core temp significantly in cores 0 and 1.
After lapping, Core 0, 61 Core 1, 61 Core 2, 59 Core 3, 59 One thing I cant believe is how much it took to get them both smooth...ish, Ages........... Still dont think its perfect though, but am happy ntl. Not for the faint hearted.. Water and cpu...... ![]() ![]() Keith. |
