| I have a Toshiba Qosmio F20, with a 1.73ghz Pentium M. Since this is socket 479, the same as a Core 2 Duo, would it be posible to have my M replaced with a Core 2 Duo and actually finish up with a functional laptop? Would there be any limitations to doing this? Thanks for reading. |

Hi Jimmy, no, it won't work. Any board that has been updated to accept a core2 has also had its voltage circuitry updated. As laptops are very precise beasts any chassis that accepts this type of cpu will be putting out slightly more heat, something you don't want in a lappy. Core2's as opposed to Pentium M's also need slightly more voltage to function, your chassis won't be configured for this. I wouldn't worry too much though, P M's are very good cpu's.

| Ok, thanks for the reply. I was thinking that because in Vista the base performance score, 3.6, is for the processor, and I thought I'd be able to 'even out' the performance ratings by getting a Core 2 Duo. How about a Core Duo? Or a faster Pentium M? Of course, it's adequately fast as it is, but, well, adequate says it all really... :p |
