Well, i have one. Just got it about a week ago and it works like a dream. I use adobe products all the time so its perfect for me. Do you think its overkill? I personally think that within 6months programs will be up to speed with quad cores but i guess we will have to wait and see.

Since the price drops I think it's fine to have one, they will be the norm in a few months and then software manufacturers will start using it.

Well i don't really imagine like you will be having any supercomputing capabilities , cause most of the work is usually linear , But in some applications parallel processing is required so it just depends on the application also .

Well, if you remember it took over 2 years for software developers to make use of dual-cores. As such now, there's very few uses (or applications) that make use of a quad core cpu.
But, if you have a use then good on ya. :). So far I personally only know of one game that makes use of a quad core cpu, in Flight Sim X. And that's with a patch. Only downside I can see is the high thermal properties of these chips when running at peak, but if you've a decent hsf then it should be a problem. Bang for buck though, they can hardly be beaten, and at least you're future proofed.

When I had bought my first Dual Core and year back, even I had thought that it will take some time for applications to develop for it, but as time has flew past me, its time for a quad core now. Its surely is not an overkill.
I must congratulate you over owning such a beast. Good luck with your dreams. |
