Unless you got an OEM cpu then you should have got some T.I.M in the box.

The tim is there to basically glue the heatsink and fan to the cpu and also transfer the heat from the cpu to the hsf.

Yes, you definately do need it.

As you don't have any i'd suggest purchasing some Arctic Silver 5 (about £5) but only use a drop and spread it out, ensuring you cover the whole top of the cpu, using some kitchen roll.

Default Question About Cooling Help PLZ :(

Dont some heatsinks not need the paste? i thought there were some that have a cover when you take off the cover there is pre applied paste on the bottom of the heatsink!

Well i installed a new cpu the other day and its running perfect without any paste! :0

Yeah often the HSF that comes with a new CPU has a thermal pad.
They are crap compared to something like AS5 though.
