Ok. Here is a pic of my mobo: look at the white 8 pinned power plug next to the CPU. ![]() And here is a pic of my PSU: the cord at the top of the pic is the power cord for the CPU. Only one of those goes into my mobo. so that my 8 pinned power plug has 4 in it. is this ok? ![]() One more thing. in the psu pic, what are those extra 2 pronged cords attached to the pci-E cords used for? MOBO: Biostar TP45 HP PSU: Corsair 650TX GPU: Radeon HD4850 |

Yikes, read the manual before you blow it all up.

The plugs in the bottom pic goto your PCI-E graphics card, nothing to do with that 8 pole mobo socket. The main power to your mobo that goes to the PSU is the big white socket, bottom middle. My System: Hybr!d

no no no. I know that the pci-e is for the gpu, and the 24 pin at the bottom is the main power source. but, that white 8 pinned plug in the top right of the picture is power for the cpu. AND the plugs at the very top of the PSU pic are not pci. Im saying that out of those 2 split there are 8 pins. And Only one of them, or 4 pins will fit into my mobo's cpu power plug. is this ok?

Ah, now I follow, thought you were crazy for a moment...
![]() I think that is correct, I have only dealt with mobos that require an additional 4 pole CPU power (not 8) but as this is new kit (so needs more juice) and if those two plugs join (which is common so the PSU fits all specs of boards) and then fits I would say that is just fine. |

Yeah, I can confirm that having dealt with it recently, you just remove the cap that may be over the extra holes on the mobo (so that if you're putting four in you get it in the right juice holes) and bend the adjoining plugs to meet the others and stick it all in
![]() EDIT: Btw, completely off-topic but how much was that mobo? And do you find it good, or have you not used it yet (Which thinking about it would make sense considering your question..)

this is kinda off topic a bit, but if you have a board with a 8pin port for the power, but 4 pf the pins have a blank or cap on them, do you still have to use a 8pin plug? or will a 4pin into the 4 that are uncapped work?

Yeah you can, to the best of my knowledge anyway.
Otherwise they wouldn't bother capping it. It'd be obvious you were meant to fill it..

okay that was kind of a dumb question i guess! but still, if you look at the manual it says you need a 8pin, oh well, maybe its just to spread the power about a bit more!

Yeah I'm not sure how it'd handle just a four pin.. I guess it'd just have to suck more from what was plugged in meaning you'd overwork the PSU (well not overwork if it was decent - but you'd stress it more than if you had all 8 plugged in. That's just an educated guess don't take my word for it. If you've got an 8 pin plug, plug it in for sure.)
