I have just installed 4GB of nvidia 800mhz RAM onto my motherboard in 2 slots of 2gb.
BIOS recognises that there are 4 GB there but windows doesnt. Windows says that there is only 3.25GB Available. How do i change this? I am running Windows XP home edition. I had also checked that my motherboard (model name i cant remember) would take this RAM and will run 800mhz Ram. I have read elsehwre that swapping the slots around might help - but BIOS recognises it so is it worth it? I have also read about changing startup files etc - happy to do this if it works. I should point out that i am not very tech savy when it comes to editing files so any response i would appreciate in easy terms - Thanks in advance! |

You need 64bit windows, 32bit is limited to 3.25gb

so does this mean that 3/4 of the RAM is unused?
Or is it just that Windows doesnt recognise it? - is there no way to cheat windows on this? |

As far as I know if it can't see it, it can't use it.
No way round it other than go 64bit. Good explanation here > http://blogs.msdn.com/hiltonl/archiv...m-problem.aspx |
