I need to upgrade ram on a pc and i'm not sure whether its as straight forward as i think.

I have at the moment 512mb 1xr8 pc2-5300u-555-12-do.

I have seen a 1GB 1Rx8 PC2-5300U-555-12 wk007 and a
1 GB PC2-5300U DDR2 667MHz RAM...are these ok to use!!

Is ram fairly universal or quite a specific when upgrading.

also what do the numbers mean ie r8 and wk007 or do etc.

Thanks

The only bit you need to look at is the DDR2 and PC2-5300 or 667Mhz.

PC-5200 is just another name for saying the RAM can run at 667Mhz.

All the rest means comparatively nothing.

RAM is fairly universal, and will run at lower speeds than rated at. But basically you want some DDR2 (Double Data Rate 2) PC-5300 (667Mhz) stuff. I would suggest getting 2 x 1GB and using that as well as continuing to use your current RAM if you have enough slots.

If you only have two slots, just dump your 512MB stick and use the two new ones, or get a 2GB stick.
