52 celsius isn't bad for a P4.

could be other components overheating or windows installed updates and you didn't see the pop ups
also 50 degrees isnt super high for any processor

maybe it restarted because your mouse batteries are critical!! lol good times.......

make sure the cooler is set properly in place, I had a system once where I didn't set the cooler correctly and it kept restarting all over the place, and the temps was under 30c, but it was still unstable, because the cooler was offset slightly..
Just give it a check. Also make sure the cpu fan connector is placed properly in the header. On some hsf you can use a molex connection to power it and then they provide one pin to put into the cpu fan slot to provide rpm information.

Because it only has one pin it can be loose and therefore not be read, your pc will think a fan is not present and shutdown.

CHEESENSTEIN ALWAYS DID THE SAME THING! but he never got above 30 celcius......

Didn't you say you needed to get a new power supply or was that just because you wanted one?

also..... put in that last fan on the top! You never got to doing that. If it is in the spot I'm thinking, it will cool it down too.
