Default Are there any other processing companies...

...besides Intel and Amd that are good? I want to see if their is a different company to choose when buying a computer

For a standard personal computer, I think they are about 99% of the market... there may be a few others, but they are not going to save you any money, energy, or grief...

It really depends what you are looking for. Each processor handles information in a distinct fashion, which the other hardware manufacturers and software programmers need to account for. Transmeta makes a processor called the Crusoe, which is based on the x86 platform used by AMD and Intel. They focus on making more efficient, low-power processors that can be found in a handful of major market laptops. Sun Microsystems makes a variety of server processors known as the UltraSPARC. IBM also has a similar selection that has found its way into a variety of platforms, but not personal computing.
