Hey everyone, In my Second PC (2.8GHz P4, 512mb RAM, GMA900) I'm currently getting tonnes of problems, I think is the motherboard and Ram failing but I have no idea what is actually wrong. Here are the problems, I get a bluescreen atleast 2-4 times a day most of the Blue Screens are "MEMORY MANAGEMENT", some games don't install, my 6200 PCI graphics doesn't work but it works in another PC (I suppose the PCI Slot is either burnt or the South bridge is screwed), when I try to install XP on it, it either says some files can't be copied or I get a bluescreen while installing. Its currently using Vista because it the only OS that can install properly. I'm planning in getting a new MoBo with 2GB Ram and a X1650 for about 80 quid, but I'm gonna keep the P4 because theres no need to get a new CPU when that one works fine and really its my brother which uses it and he only plays War Rock and WoW, Also I checked the MoBo website and the P4 is supported. Before I do get all this, I need to know is it really a MoBo and RAM problem before I splash out 80quid to fix it. Please can some one help me ...

Could be just a Ram issue ..... have you tried different Ram ? .... also 512mb is not really enough.

What are the exact error messages, when it blue screens ?

The problems most likely trying to run Vista on that sort of spec..

One of mine has 1GB (the minimum) and is a nightmare with Vista.

2GB of RAM shouold sort it.

EDIT: Sorry phil, you hadn't posted when I started writing

Most of the bluescreen i'm getting are memory management but some are IRQL nor equal or less, also I guess faulty Ram shouldn't cause my graphics card to fail ? and I would definatley run XP on that PC if it ever got installed without a error. Also I tried putting another PC's ram into it but the graphics card still don't work. My brother can't coop with the GMA900, so I guess if i got a new MoBo and Ram would help ? or is it some other problems like HDD or CPU ?

There are 2 issues here ... the Ram and the Graphics Card.

Concentrate on one at a time ..... i.e. add some decent Ram and see if that solves the blue screens and alows you to install XP.

Then we can look at the Graphics Card issue.

If you prefer to buy a new mobo and Ram, that will probably solve it, but without doing some testing with new Ram etc., there's no real way of knowing where the problem lies ..... it's a process of elimination, testing the most likely and less costly things first.

The issue with the Ram is that bluescreen problems, i've also ran memtest86 and i got tonnes of error. Its 2x 256mb and i know which one is faulty. The graphics card is 100% working on my other PC but failing on the other.I'll remove that faulty 256mb and see XP installs.

actually guys, its sorted. I was wrong after all, the 6200 was burnt out, it didnt work on the other PC. The ram problem was sorted, but i'm still gonna upgrade so that it can support dual/quad cores in the future and the PCI-E graphics will help alot.

Probably yeah.

If you uninstall all drivers before swapping mobo (including chipset drivers), you may get away with it, but even if you do, it will probably need reactivating.
