nah it doesn't sound noobish , it sounds like some one in need of help.
wd-40 is a little to diluted its not normally used as a oil or a grease replacement but more of an aid for old joints and rusty locks etc , try your average cooking oil or vaseline with the smallest drop of water and mix it i mean like 5 mils of vaseline and 1 mil water but try a drop of cooking oil for a fast solution but for the price of a high grade oil nowadays wouldn't be much cheaper then a new fan so try cooking oil, or vaseline with a very small amount of water. Do you know where the bearings are? if not either Google it / youtube it or try peeling back the round sticker on the fan itself.

Um i doubt it but I've never tried wd-40 but if it makes no difference just add a bit of vaseline or cooking oil.

Hi again.

I found out where they grinding noise was coming and it wasnt the cpu fan..., it was coming form the hard drive bay, whch was vibrating alot. Sorry if i wasted anybodys time..The cpu fan is still loud though, the cpu temps are fine (30-40c). I guess ill just have to live with it.

A noisy fan is the least of your worries, make sure your hard drive is secure because id expect long term vibration will cause some issues with your hd.
