i have had very odd cpu temps recently, im overclocked to 2.50ghz on a celeron from 2ghz but recently the cpu temps have been playing around, when the system starts up it all seems fine, but for some strange reason, my cpu temp changes from day to day - even hour to hour, even if my case temp stays at 37C my cpu temp can change from 39C all the way up to 49C when doing the same tasks, but the case temp wont shift, looked in side my comp it all clean
EDIT: btw my case is like a flat pc, cant explain it, looks like a bigger sky or DVD player kind of shape. any ideas for this would greatly help |

sounds like there could be a problem with either the temperature sensor, or the program reading the temperature, what are you using? try using a different one, see if you get a different reading. And does the CPU flick to that temperature for a min or so, then go back, or does it raise, then stay there?

im using everst have done for ages, tryed speed fan same thing, and it rises to this tempurature, i dont think its a faulty tempurature sensor because it does adjust to the temps in the room

How old is the chip? It may be on its last legs, you could try lowering your OC a little and see if the temps still fluctuate alot

i wouldnt say its that old thing it were made 2003, not sure though, il lower ma OC tomoz im knackered at the mo, btw no one ask what the board is, its unknown to most people as even Aopen dont have drivers manuals or owt much for it.

lowered ma OC down to 2.26Ghz still roughly the same temps, bar 1C lower but really i need to use it for longer as the case temp at the moment is 3C lower then it is usually

I overclocked one of those for ages without problems. CPU temps vary all the time anyway and it isn't as though it is shooting up to 80C or anything.
I am sure the airflow in a case is not steady and possiby flips from one flow pattern to another on a regular basis. If you can stand the power bill you could slot in a 2.8GHz Pentium 4. Or fit a fan with a temp sensor on the CPU! That CPU runs cool in my opinion and a P$ is much hotter.

i think it maybe something to do with airflow, it only has one exhaust fan, thats the only thing to get the hot air out, as the case is so slim it has no mounting holes for other fans ETC.lukily i have a fan small enough to wedge it in and help cool down my HDD but it only just does and it sucks in more warm air to try and cool it down lol.
i dont think i will fit a 2.8GHz P4 because they run much much hotter, and i only have a 200W PSU as it has to fit in the case and empty all the hot air out, and the case is so small might only just fit a a new fan in, i think a new case is on the books at the moment, then upgrade from there i guess. BTW i dont think a P4 will work in my board check it out: its an Aopen mx46u2-cn, there is no info on them at all. Pete21: that program dont work with my board as it is a very rare board btw overclocked back upto 2.62Ghz seems to be same tempaurture |

try taking the side off your case then if you don't have very good air flow, see if that makes any difference to the temperature.
