It either won't install or will just crash out. (not good for the computer components)

Newer games will often scan your system and tell you if you have too little memory. However, with computers usually coming with at least 512mb of RAM these days it's not really a huge concern.

i did something similar, but RAM wasn't as much a concern as my processor was. it was a celeron 2.10ghz single core from 7 years ago. fast at the time, but for playing Call of Duty 2, it was a bit of a strain. i went online and systemrequirementslab.com told me it wouldn't run. surprisingly it did, and i was running it with at least 25 fps in many areas. considering that, it could've been a lot worse. for instance, it could have not run at all. however, i took the fact that my old rig was NOT a gaming computer into consideration. whenever i did play, i always did it at 800x600 res, with many of the bells and whistles turned off completely.

moral of that little story is that sometimes you can slip through the cracks and pull something surprising out of your bum. a sort of "wow that shouldn't have worked" kind of moment. but it isn't such a good idea. it's best to have the appropriate hardware. and as you might be able to tell, i ditched my old rig and built myself a new one.

just make sure you're ready ahead of time. check systemrequirementslab to see if your computer can run it. and if not, upgrade or buy a new computer.
