Default What MB and CPU should I get?

The processor in my comp recently went out so I'm interested in upgrading a bit. I have $550 and all I need to get with that is the motherboard, procesor, and windows OS. My question is what should I get that gives me the most bang for my buck and doesn't go over the $550 budget? I play games on this comp, nothing like crysis but stuff like NWN 2 and WOW.
I was thinking of getting
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188033
and
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115017

What I have to put in to this comp is
2 x 160gb hard drives
1 x 9600 gt video card
16x multiformat dual-layer DVD±RW
9-in-1 media card reader
500w power supply
10/100Mbps integrated Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 port)

as far as memory I can get whatever type I need to go with the MB outside of te $550 budget.

Processors almost never "give out" unless you do something like remove the heatsink during operation. I would make sure that is the problem before dropping $500 on an upgrade.

If that is indeed the problem, just get a P45 motherboard and an E8400 then use the rest toward a good monitor or a better graphics card (the 9600GT is decidedly budget)

yeah, what happened was that the clips holding the heatsink broke and when the heatsink came off bringing the processor with it, it bent and broke some of the pins. I should have been more clear on that one.

I would actually love to get a better video card but upgrading that blows my budget out of the water. That is going to be my next uprade. Should I get a faster dual core or a quad core. After asking around it seems to depend on who you ask. lol.

If you game, get the dual-core.

yes. dont get sli boards. they suck. im suprised carbon didnt say anything. a p45 from gigabyte and an e8400 is a great combo. a 9600 gt from xfx or bfg is a great budget card.

I was going to get the exact same processor and motherboard. I know that these 2 are great buys, not sure about the memory though I think G-Skill are a good make and 4GB is an excellent choice for Vista.
