As I said earlier I have bought 100's of item from eBay and know of others that have done the same, yet I have only received one faulty item.
If you buy from trusted sellers then you have nothing to worry about, all you have to do is check their feedback.....easy!
Even though that is mostly true, even a user with great feedback could wrongly package computer parts. I ordered a cpu from a seller with great feedback once but I hadn't realized none of the feedback came from computer parts. It was packaged poorly and was dead on arrival.

At least check what items the seller normally sells.

Given that sellers don't even get their money any more if the item arrives dodgy, I think there is almost more security on eBay than anywhere else.

Checking the feedback is normally exactly that.. checking what feedback he has got and for what.

And if it was damaged in transit then you could go back to the seller or PayPal and get your money back.

Have bought many various items from e-bay, 99% of the time the item is as described and works on arrival, but have noticed certain treads in the adverts to whether it works or not
Such like selling for a friend or esp with pcs working when pulled but that was xxxxx months ago and or unable to test or a very limited descripton, but you can ask the seller any question you like, just make sure you read the ad properly and on the whole ive found they will refund

I've had some real nightmares. All the scumbags use it to sell as it is cheap, no marketing budget needed. That said if you do your homework you should be OK but odds are on that sooner or later you'll get had. Be it missing parts from a purchase or no item at all to faulty and damaged goods.

I would recommend Ebay as well. Sellers always have a satisfaction score, and if they rip anybody off they never last long on Ebay. Seller ratings is a self sufficient anti-scammer mechanism. It actually works pretty well not many people scam there. If they do they are investigated and stopped.

If your motherboard supports DDR2 memory, its better to use that but if your motherboard supports only DDR you can use that also but nowadays DDR are expensive rather than DDR2. A DDR with 1gig memory will cost for about $25 I guess.
