Please help!

I was trying to help a friend increase his RAM when I picked up the wrong stick of and inserted it in his PC.

It was running slow but fine on 1 x 256MB DDR PC2700.
I inserted 1 x 512MB PC2 5300, switched on but the PC didn't boot.

My friend thought he saw a puff of smoke but I didn't see or smell anything. It was very dusty in the case so it could have been dust/fluff.

We quickly switched the PC off and re-inserted the 256MB RAM it was running fine on. On booting nothing appears on screen. Everything appears to be running, but monitor states no signal.

Have I damaged the mobo or could it be the video card?
The mobo is an ASrock P4V88+.

Where should I start in trying to pinpoint the problem?

All help appreciated.

With excessive force, of course.

Thanks for that guys!

Have I buggered the mobo tho?

Where's the best place to get a replacement, either the same or similar to fit case/other components?

Many thanks.
