Hello!
Recently my hp Pavilion dv1000 began hibernating without instruction to do so, and without the computer being low on power. Often, it hibernates before or immediately after logging in to XP. I decided to try shutting the machine down and unseating/reseating the RAM. Afterward I logged into XP and began using the machine without a problem. So I tried to make the most of the opportunity, and disabled hibernation in the control panel. Unfortunately, like an goofball, I walked away from the computer when it was running on battery power, and by the time I got back it had shut down. When I connected it to AC and attempted to boot it, it didn't hibernate at the log-in screen. Instead, XP gave me the option to restart, shut down, or stand-by. I chose shut down, unseated and reseated the RAM again, booted the machine, and it works fine again. So well that I'm able to type this message! Can someone explain why popping the RAM out and plugging it back in makes a difference? Is there something I can do to prevent the machine from shutting down automatically? I'd appreciate some direction! Thanks. |

I'd try a BIOS flash, seems like some sort of odd ACPI issue.
