Hi folks, first post, so please be gentle!

I've just done a self build, and I'm having a few various problems, and this is just one of them!

This is what is new...

Gigabyte S-series GA-965P
Core 2 Duo E6600
2 gig Corsair Ram
Leadteck 8800GTS 640meg
550 watt psu
320gig SATA

I'm running XP sp2

After a long battle, I managed to get up and running, but after installing my Mobo drivers, my DVD R/RW drive was getting an I/O Error?
I uninstalled it, re booted, great!, GPU disk in, and installed that.
Next disc I tried, I/O error!!!!!

So I swopped it over to my DVD Player.
That, like my burner, worked, then just a few hours later, that stopped reading cd's....it has a look, and spits the cd out.

So, of course, I can't install any thing, which is very fustrating, and I don't want to splash out on a new DVD burner, untill I can find out what may be the cause of these issues!

Thanks for taking the time to read my post..

I'm open to any ideas!

How is the drive connected to the board MM and how do you have the jumpers set?
Is the drive also a sata or is it IDE

Hi Wolfey,

Thanks for your fast response.

Both DVD drives are IDE, new HD is sata.
Will need to check up on Jumper setting, these were done by my Brother, who knows a bit more than I, but he assures they are right. I will check later, when I have a little more time.

Cheers

MM

Try connecting one at a time on the IDE cable, rather than both.

That will rule out jumpers etc.

Also make sure the channels are enabled in the BIOS.

Well I thought I had sorted this, but in the last hour both problems have re-occured, and no end of different jumper settings are working.
I've only ever had 1 plugged in at any one time....this is doing my head in!

Please only post one thread per problem, currently you have two and I'm unaware if you have fixed this or not, one thread says yes the other says no.

Thanks.

I understand your confusion Dave, this whole new-build is confusing the hell out of me.

I thought I had fixed it, went through all my audio problems, and the same error is now happening again with both of these DVD players.

I know the audio thread comments on this problem, I wasn't sure wether all these issues were all part of a mobo problem...... but they are different threads...I think:).

Thanks for your continued assistance.
