whats the best make of harddrive to go for (Seagate, Western Digital etc)

There is no definitive answer, it's really down to personal experience.

I only use Western Digital drives after bad experiences with other brands.

I rate WD's as well.

But prefer Samsung.

I like Maxtor, used to think they were cheap drives, but if you read the reviews you'll find that they are quite good quality.
