Default Blu-Ray Disc Rewriter Internal SATA to usb enclosure?

hi guys how are you?

my buddy just bought this by mistake:
http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/351712...l/Product.html

as he only has a laptop it is of limited use to him and he wants to send it back but has opened the packaging up which prevents him from doing so.

my question is, is it possible to buy an enclosure like a hard drive enclosure which converts the blu ray rewriter into an external usb device that he can use with his laptop?

thanks a lot,

buchanan

Yes it is ..... something like this would do the trick .... comes with its own power supply.

Not all 5.25" Enclosures support SATA, but this one supports both SATA and IDE drives.

I highly doubt USB will have enough bandwidth for any useful actions with the Blu-Ray player.

Bandwidth on USB2 doesn't appear to be a problem, as there are plenty of ready built External USB2 Blu-Ray Drives on the market. Sony, LiteOn, LaCie are just a few and some are Blu-Ray Burners, as well.

Have you come across problems personally ?

Nope, perhaps you're right. I just can't imagine doing any sort of HD video streaming over USB 2.0.

I guess the proof of the pudding is in the eating ... as they say

I personally wouldn't go for an external USB Blu-Ray Drive .... I hate the flakyness of USB connections, but as he has the drive sitting idle, I guess in this case, it's gotta be worth exploring.

Wow, okay for starters I was wondering the exact same thing this morning, but what I'm really writing for is to say I'm sorry but you guys get screwed on electronics prices. I noticed it when I was visiting your beautiful country but what your friend just paid for that hybrid player (I brought the exact same thing) I paid the same except in Canadian Dollars, which is about half the pound in worth. I just sent an Irish friend of mine an iPod and he saved (even with shipping) about 50 euros. I know we don't really know each other but I could do the same for you guys, but your prices are frankly just sick!
