 Blue screen of death!!

recently purchased a second harddrive (hitachi 80GB) for my desktop but whenever it is connected my computer boots up and then says 'delayed write faliure' and then gives me the blue screen.
greatful for any help
running: windows xp home
first harddrive: hitachi 250 GB...
