Hey, im posting on the general hardware as im not sure if the problem is only sectioned on the drives so i was on my computer this morning came back from college, booted up about 6 hours laters and got this error message "reboot and selcet proper boot device, or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key".

Now ive checked in the BIOS that its set to read the harddrive first on which is my operating system but it dosen't seem to recognise the drive nor the CD drive, so im kind of stuck and dont have the money to take it to a shop and pay £50 which i probably could fix myself if i knew what was up.

thanks for your time.

Specs are
Motherboard: p5k-e/wifi-ad edition
Ram:corsair CM2X2048-6400C5 800mhz 2gig

Power supply:tr2 RX 550w
HD:cant rember the exact name, i believe its a maxtor its 500gig single drive (not running raid). I also did not buy it nor install it my step dad did. I know limited knowledge about computers, but i know the basics ^^.

I would check to make sure it's getting power and the data cable has not become disconnected. Open the case and see, they spin up and whine when powered on. If all is ok, but it still doesn't show in the BIOS I would say it's faulty.

Might be a blown component.. Happens from time to time, have you got another machine to test hardware in?

Great. With regard to the 6 hours ago it was fine.

Everything that breaks in the world was fine 5 mins ago...
