Default Booting from C.D

I bagged myself a bargain yesterday, at least I think I did......

I bought a partially assembled PC containing:

P5K Premium
Q6600
2G Dominator 1066
9600GT
120G Hard drive
Tuniq Tower
650w PSU
A very nice antec case
XP Home

Thing is that when I installed windows it went in fine, then I updated windows and this was quite an old copy so it had to download and install SP2, now it hangs at the windows start up screen and then shuts down and reboots, it follows this repetitive cycle again and again.

Set bios to boot from C.D and it doesn't........
It just boots from HD.
C.D first boot device
Floppy second, not fitted.
HD third.

I have looked at bios in great depth and can find no way to make it boot from the C.D in the drive.

The only other thing I can mention is that when windows was up and running My computer showed a floppy drive, it doesn't have one. The floppy port is not connected.

I have replaced the RAM and the G card just incase.

Any Ideas?.

Many Thanks in advance,

Keith.

If the CD Drive is definitely set as first boot device and it's still trying to boot from the HDD, it could be the CD has become unreadable or the CD drive has gone bad.
Try a different disk first and if no joy, try a new CD Drive.

I take it you are not getting the "press any key to boot from CD" message

No I wasnt getting the message. I did exactly as you suggested before you posted and have tried 3 different drives, 2 dvd drives and a standard drive. I have just managed to get somewhere with an LG drive, it seems that this pc is a little fussy about the type of drive it has!!!!!!

I have now managed to get windows reinstalled but am still struggling to get the thing to recognise the MB CD....

Will let U know how it goes.....

Many Thanks,

Keith.
