Hi there, not being confident with computers i would like to ask a question.I have a athlon dual core processor motherboard with a sata 250gb hardrive.I also have spare ide 320gb hardrive that i would like to use via the spare ide slot.Is this possible without causing damage to computer ?

Of course, just plug it into the IDE slot and plug in power and you're set.
