Default can not burn a file to a CD

Every time I try to burn a play list from the window media player, the computer shuts down, actually like you were to shut down and restart the computer. (for any files.)
Is their any setting that I need to adjust. Note: the burner has been used only few
time.Its almost new.

PC could be overheating, burning a CD will max out the CPU.

Check the CPU fan and clean it of any dust or debris.
