Default Can't access files CD disk, just shows up as a blank disc??

Hi

Can anyone help? I am trying to access backed up files that I stored on a CD disk, as I recently reformatted my computers hard drive. But every time I insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive, the disk is either not recognized or shows up as a blank disc. I can confirm that it isn’t a faulty drive that is causing the problem as I have tested it using other CD’s which work fine. Nor is it a faulty disc issue as I have downloaded several trial versions of File Recovery software from the internet, which successfully recover the missing files on the disk, but the files can only be accessed by purchasing the software. So my question is simple, how can I access my files from this disk for free? Surely there is a solution to this. Would appreciate any help

Thank you

Jonathan

Here is a very interesting problem. With what program did you write the CD originally. Some programs such as EasyCD creator burn the files in a way that only computers with the same program on it can decode. Maybe your issue is that. Also make sure you can physically see that the disk is burnt by seeing if there is a discoloration of the area written on. If the entire writable area of the disk is the same color as a blank.. The CD is blank and writing to the disk had failed.

Man I for some reason thought i already posted to this one.
Anyways this is an interesting problem. The thing is many different aspects can cause this. First with what program did you make the original cd. Some cd burning programs like EasyCD creator use their own formating when burning disks. This means that only another computer with the same program will be able to read the disk. Make sure that this is not the case. Next are you sure the disk was successfully burnt or was burnt at all. Check this by seeing if there is a discoloration ring within the writable area of the disk. If the disk is the same color as a blank disk and not slightly darkened then the disk is blank and the write was unsuccessfully written.
