I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 with Vista home edition
This has happened before and the tech(it was under waranty) fixed it over the Internet but it took a while to diagnose and repair. What is happening is all of a sudden the computer won't recognize the cd player or a disk that gets put into it. However, the device manager knows its there and has a yield sign on it. I have tried uninstalling the driver then reinstalling without success. Any suggestions would be appreciated |

Uninstall and restart. You might have to go online and update the firmware for the drive although this is unlikely.
Let us know how you get on =) |

___________ The computer won't recognize the drive as a drive when you look under windows explorer. However the drive is under the device manager but it has an error. It says the error code 39 |

Also .... make sure you only install one piece of burning software, as some do not like to play nicely with each other.
Out of interest did you have Daemon Tools or any other CD mounting software installed ? |

It worked! Thanks
None of the tools mentioned do I have installed. I did have a near fatal crash about 1 week ago and that may have done something. But Like I said in the first statement, this is the second time its happened on this laptop. Thanks again! |
