Default CD & DVD Drivers

First of all I just wanted to say hello to everyone and how great the forums are as I have I picked up some helpful tips and advice...

I am still struggling with a problem at the moment, I have had a corrput hard drive and ended up loosing everything, grrr
So I tried reinstalling windows but still after a week the same error occured, so I opened the base station up to find two hard drives (160GB) so I swaped the master with the spare and installed windows on,, the pc has been running fine now for a month however I have lost my CD driver and DVD burner
I have tried downloading the drivers online and saving them to my desktop but when I unzip the files it shows an error " No Match drive detected" see attached
this is happening for both drivers which are JLMS XJ-HD166S and LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-411S

Please can someone give me some advise on how I can get my cd drivers to work as I am at my last straw, or even provide a link to where I can get the drivers from and where to install/save them

Many thanks in advance
Scurr

Have you tried simply right clicking on each device in device manager and selecting 'update driver' ?

If that doesn't work, right click and select 'uninstall' then reboot windows. Windows should then 'find' the devices again and associate a generic driver.

If you don't get any joy with those two post back.

Default CD & DVD Drivers

Hard drives and CD/DVD drivers use generic Windows drivers and thus do not need any additional manufacturers drivers.

Check the drives show up in your BIOS first before messing with anything else.

I have just checked and I can see them in the BIOS one of them under the master and the other under the slave,, all I did was swap my harddrive over to see if that fixed my original problem which it did (fingers x)

As both Dave and I have stated, windows associates generic 'driver's with optical drives.

The menu in device manager offering to 'update driver' I mentioned is simply the way it's worded in windows as it's a generic menu.

You should look on the manufacturers website for firmware updates as it could be down to this.

But I'm leaning toward the new layout. You stated they are showing in the bios but are they showing correctly as you've set them now (correct ide, master/slave) ?

Hi Alex, thanks for the info there,, I have not altered anything in the Bios as I am worried I may change something I shouldn't,, the Cd drive is showing as the master and the DVD is showing as the slave, I should of checked to see what other options I had in there, but will do when I get home,

I will check on the Advent website is the make of the computer to see what drivers are available

thanks again, I will let you all know how I get on

Default CD & DVD Drivers

hi there, well I have checked the BIOS and there showing where they should (Master/Slave) I think as i have not alter anything in there, the only thing I have done is swapped over the Hard drives in my desktop due to the many problems I had with the windows corrupting, since swapping the hard drives and installing windows again I have no major problems
I have tried Uninstalling the drivers and rebooting windows see the drivers but will not fully install
I have tried downloading the drivers and saving them to the desktop where I unziped them and "open" but they show the error message I sent on the first thread

Hope someone can help my nightmare

Thanks
