| I think I may have changed the option myself (stupidly!), but now, I cannot find a way to change it back. When I insert a CD into the drive, it no longer runs. That is, the drive doesn't automatically begin spinning the disc, and I do not get the autorun dialog box (asking what I want to do). However, I have went to System > Device Manager > CD/DVD drive > Properties and made sure the "Ask what to do every time" is enabled. Still, the box doesn't show, and the disc doesn't spin like it used to. It works fine when I go to My Computer and click the drive, but this is a bit tedious. Any suggestions? I'm pulling my hair out trying to find help online, but all I see are users asking to turn autoplay off and such! Last edited by rigisme : 16-12-2007 at 02:21 AM. |

| Is it all CDs or just some? If the CD does not contain a file called autorun.inf in the root directory, it is not designed to autoplay. Last edited by evilfantasy : 16-12-2007 at 02:21 AM. |

| Download Microsofts Tweak UI HERE Then go to this web page to see how to use Tweak UI to turn on Autostart. http://www.soniacoleman.com/FAQs/FAQ00158.htm |

| I installed Tweak UI, made sure the autorun settings were checked, and tried again. Still nothing. I don't really think it is the autorun dialog setting, but rather, I think it has something to do with the drive itself. It doesn't begin spinning the disc, which would then trigger the autorun dialog box. It's driving me crazy! I tried doing a System Restore to a couple days ago, but that didn't help either. |

| If you are running XP Pro :

Click Start & Run type in gpedit.msc and hit Enter Expand Administraive Templates Expand Windows Components Click Autoplay Policies In the right hand window right click "Turn Off Autoplay" & click "Properties and click the Settings tab. This should be set to disabled. If not, click the radio button and Apply. HTH I'm not 100% sure, but I dont think you have access to gpedit.msc in XP Home My System: Home Build

| You could try the Autoplay Repair Tool here (line 234)) : http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

| Thanks for the cool link. That seemed to help the CD/DVD player when swapping discs. (When I was ripping my collection using WMP, I would constantly have to close and reopen WMP for it to "find" the next CD. Now, it seems to finally be doing that on its own.) The dialog box still doesn't show when I put a disc into the drive, however. Kinda frustrating, as I have the option turned on. :/ I may just have to live without it. |
