Hi all!
I just recently restored my old Compaq Presario from the grave(with the help of this forum i might add!). Now it boots up but comes up with an error message saying "unable to boot from drive, insert system disk and press enter". i'm guessin my HD has had it coz it's asking for a bootable floppy coz it can't boot the OS from th e hard drive when there is XP installed on it. When i bring up setup\bios it says there are no IDE devices installed(the hard drive is the only device installed, everything else i'e CD rom and floppy have been removed)? Has the HD given up on me or is it somethin else? If it is dead could someone please advise me on what type would be compatible with my motherboard etc? My board is a Asus K8S-LA with an AMD 3100+ sempron cpu(1.8GHz) and Pheonix award bios ver 6. I'm also interested in purchasing a SATA hard drive as my board supports it(i'm assuming SATA 1) what should i be looking for in regards to a new SATA drive? Thanks. |

Sounds like the drive has failed, does it show in the BIOS?
