A few days ago, my desktop PC broke, I presume with a power supply problem. I bought a new PC as the old one was nearing the end of its usable life span. Unfortunately there were some files on the hard disk that I would like to recover.
If i were to buy an enclosure and convert it in to an external drive, how would I go about recovering the data. Would it work like a plug n play device, or would I need software to access it? Any help would be appreciated |

If you just put it in an enclosure it should just be plug and play.

So the fact that an OS is installed makes no difference? Would I have to worry about it trying to boot?

Your PC won't boot from it unless you tell it to in the BIOS.

simliar situation as above
this external is from the computer the systemax a782 is replacing. it is a sata drive which means no jumper (that i can find) to change from master to slave...so the only way i seem to be able to use it is to have the external off when i boot the 782 and then turn the external on...after the 782 has stablized...i know i am missing something here...just not sure what. i was hoping someone could shead some light on the subject. i also have two other externals with no issues all on the same hub. is the issue that the external drive has vista 32 operating on it? |
