Default Could this reduce the life of my new hard drive?

Hey. I had my new external hard drive on the computer desk, it hasn't been opened; it's still in it's original packaging (which has very little cushioning, if any). My cat jumped up on the desk and knocked it on the floor, about 3 feet. Will/could this hurt the lifespan of my hard drive?

Thanks.

If it wasn't powered up, and reading/writing data at the time I wouldn't worry. The spindle won't have been powered up, along with the head so it'll be stable.

If it was powered up it may have been in standby anyway. 3.5" hdd's have this feature built in as a power saver/longevity feature to promote lifespan.

If it was powered up and reading/writing data then just run a chkdsk.

Regardless of all of the above it'll let you know rather quickly if there's anything faulty.
