Hi,

I'm using Windows XP Pro. When I switch my computer on, I get the following message: "Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk and Press Enter".

The problem happened after I replaced one of my secondary hard drives. Windows was working fine before that. The new hard drive I installed is identical to the last one I installed and I did it in exactly the same way. I've checked all the connections and they all appear to be fine. I noticed that the IDE cable for the primary hard drive had become disconnected and thought that might be the problem, but I reconnected it and tried again and it made no difference. I also tried disconnecting the new hard drive, but that didn't help either.

Please can someone suggest what I can do to get my computer working again?

Thanks,
Joe

Windows is not being detected on any of the dives, so the one that had windows on it is either not set as the boot drive, disconected or faulty.

Get into your BIOS and make sure the windows drive shows up, and that it is set as the default (boot) drive.

I have checked the BIOS. The drive with Windows on it is listed as the primary boot device. I know because it's the only Hitachi drive I'm using.

I would say it's faulty. Could always try to boot of a Windows install CD and do a checkdisk on it from the recovery console, that will confirm what state it is in.

I ran a checkdisk and it still didn't work, so I did an Hitachi Disk Fitness Test and that said the drive was fine.

Finally I tried starting the computer with only the primary hard drive connected which worked. I then tried adding the secondary hard drives one by one, including the new one and everything works fine.

Thanks for your help,
Joe

Check the BIOS where hard drive is showing or not and check the power and data cable of your hard drive and if you using two hard drive with one data cable then make the jumper setting as master and slave after that still not work then insert the bootble CD and install the OS again.

So make sure that your first Hard Drive Power Cable is properly inserted or working or not make sure I hope it will continue to work,. There is simple and minor power Problem. Do it Sonn.
