Hello,

Iam using,
P4
Intel 845 GVSR
40 GB Hard Disc
256 MB Ram.

I plan to upgrade Hard Disc for my Computer. I plan to go for 160 GB Hard disc.
Iam not sure wheather my board supports it. Please tell me can i go for it, or give me a solution. and also i would like to know the maximum capacity of the ram & HDD suits the board.

Regards
James

Max ram is 2gb. 256mb is to low for Win XP (though 2000 might be okay) your really want 512mb+, preferably 1gb. Bear in mind this board takes older style ram, which can be more expensive than the newer stuff!

Cant find a max on the hard drive size, but 160gb will work fine. As with the RAM, the board supports older style hard drives only, NOT SATA, only IDE. Just something to watch for when buying a new HDD, having made that mistake before

Yeah, you might want to take this chance to make a cheapy upgrade, of mobo at least.

Not sure where XP came into it mctw? But I'd agree, and TBH I'd fit at least 1GB anyway.

Also, if you plan to replace your existing drive and make the 160gb drive your main OS Drive, make sure you install a version of XP with SP1 or later, as original the XP release only supported HDDs upto 137gb.

There's always some kind of logic behind it, but it always strikes me as odd that they make the maximum HDD supported 137 of something...

Not what you'd call a round number

(Obviously it's always to do with Computer logic, not human logic.. )
