Hey all,

I have a Samsung Writemaster SH-S202N CD/DVD - RW. I'm running windows vista 64 bit. This drive has worked flawlessly so far for the past 2 weeks that I've had it, however I hadn't attempted to burn a DVD or CD. I put a blank CD in, and the drive did not recognize it. On the "My Computer" screen, it just shows the drive as "DVD RW Drive (D:)", it never loads the blank disk. I then attempted a blank DVD, same results. I decided to load up WMP to see if I could burn anything, and it too didn't detect anything.

The drive loads other CD's / DVD's perfectly. Do I need drivers? I couldn't find a 64 bit driver for this disk drive.

I'm really on the verge of just eliminating Vista 64 bit. It has been nothing but trouble. Absolutely horrible experience with Vista, and 64 bit. The compatibility issues are ridiculous and I don't understand how a company such as Microsoft could release such an unstable OS. My speakers won't play surround sound, my mouse drivers caused my computer to crash randomly, I can't make two programs play through one output audio source at the same time (the entire audio setup is highly unstable), Vista hogs memory...what IS the upside to having Windows Vista?


I hate to turn it into a vista or no vista thread, but I'm really on edge here, I can't decide if I should just continue putting up with all these problems Vista throws at me, or just reformat for the third time due to compatibility issues, and ***UPgrade*** to XP.

Please help?

Yep ..... it's well known that Vista 64 has driver and incompatibility issues. Having said that XP64 is nearly just as bad, so if you go back, stick to the 32bit version.

It does seem crazy, but M$ just cannot seem to write a workable 64bit Operating System.
