I have a sata dvd burner installed on my computer that is not working like it should be. The drive does reconize dvd and cds when I put a disc in it. The problem is that the drive stops in the middle of it being used. Like I'm installing a program and the drive just spins down and stops for a minute or so before it resumes. I tried to play a dvd movie and have the same problem. I don't trust it right now to burn discs. It is my only optical drive on my computer. The hard drives are hooked up to 1 sata cable and the dvd drive is hooked up to another. How can I fix my problem without possible reinstalling vista?

It sounds like a faulty drive or connection. Check that all the leads are firmly connected and if no better, test the drive on a different PC, just to be sure.
