Default DVD burners won't read

both of my burners are having the same problems at the same time. they have been working fine. here is whats going on.

i am running windows vista, my drives won't READ any cd or dvd weather they are blank, or if they have music, or movies on them...........but............they will WRITE both cd or dvd with no problems...all drivers are up to date, as well as firmware.

Do you think both burners are dead?.....i have had one for about 3yrs, and the other for just about 1yr.

THANKS

Very unlikely they should both fail together!

By "read" do you mean "auto-run" or that nothing appears in explorer? If the former, there may be an easy fix.

read meaning....auto-run will not appear once the cd is in the drive...and explorer will not open either......................that is until the drive is ejected!

Can you download TweakUI from here and then run it? Under My Computer, Autoplay, you may find that autoplay is not enabled on the drives any more. Also the handlers may be missing.
