Default DVD Drive Problem

Im having trouble with an NEC DVD_RW ND-3550A in my Packard Bell computer (XP). It plays CDs and DVDs ok, but if I place a blank disc, have tried DVD+RW, DVD-R, CD-R and CD-RW, it tells me that there is No Used Space and No Free Space, I therefore cant record info to discs. What am I doing wrong, PS Im not very technical. Any help much appreciated. Thanks

Try firmware updates to your driver.

Default DVD Drive Problem

What tells you there is No Used Space and No Free Space, your Burning program or My Computer (Computer if Vista) ?

The files I am trying to copy to disc are photos JPEG and some Word documents, I just use the installed Windows CD Writing Wizard, but it states no room on disc,(even though they are blank).

Never liked the inbuilt Windows Burning program myself.

Grab a trial copy of Nero and see if that sorts things out

Default DVD Drive Problem

Everything gets a bit more weird. I
f I start my computer it accepts CD-R and CD-RW as having space on them, and I can copy.
But if I put in a DVD-R it states No Space, if I then put in a CD it states No Space (where earlier it was working). I have to reboot and put in the CD first again for it to register as having space to copy to. It is a DVD-RW drive, I can play DVD but it does not seem to recognise blank DVDs. Anyone any ideas
