Hi all,
Im new hear so please be gentle. Ive looked for an answer to my problem but cant find one so hopefully youll be able to help. Ive got a WD external drive 250gb and Im using a 20gb partition to back up my c drive. Its now full up after regular backups, the 20gb part that is, and I want to delete all the contents and start again. When i try to delete all the contents I get messages appearing at various times telling me that if i delete 'whatever it is' the computer may no longer work properly. I assume this is because Im trying to delete programmes etc but does it matter as its in the external drive backup and I assume if its programme contents then its only a copy? Or will this actually affect the main PC itself? Please excuse my ignorance here but I dont want to risk a problem in my PC and i do want to empty the external drive of old backup information. Thanks in advance, Talbot |

If the stuff is just a back up copy and the programs are not actually installed to run from the external drive then it should be fine to delete everything. You wont be affecting the functionality of any of the programs as they will be installed to and run from the computers main internal drive.

Yup, it's just windows recognising the filenames basically and 'deciding' that they're needed for windows to run correctly. Windows, unfortunately, doesn't take into account which drive these files are stored on.
Delete, you'll be fine.
