External Hard-Disk

Hi, I was re-installing windows xp yesterday, i had my external hard-disk installed, and accidently deleted all the data, the machine will not recognise the hard disk, it never came with a installation cd? any ideas???

Were you trying to install XP to the external HDD?
If your BIOS does not support booting from USB then you won't get anywhere.

Hi, No im not trying to install windows xp on the externa hard disk, ive already installed it onto the main pc hard disk, i just need to make the external drive work. On the xp setup where you can decide where and what you want to do ie, partitions etc, i accidently deleted my external hard disk. now it wont load. and i never had a disk for the external hard disk? any ideas would be great?

its a external enclosure i think name of Spire!!!

So you have XP sitting pretty on you main internal HDD yes?
You want to use the external for storage and you may want to partition it?

Have a look at this, but first you will need to format the external drive using Disk Management.

Okay, how do i do this?

xp is fine on the main system, i just need the main pc to recognise the external drive.

Go into Control Panel, Admin Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management and see if it listed there.
