I have a hitachi 80GB external HD that was purchased overseas. I'm not aware of the model. It has worked fine for a number of months until yesterday, for some reason, my computer complained that it did not recognize the USB device being attached. Apparently the drivers are not there. The HD powers up, and I know all of my USB ports are functioning properly. A driver problem? What happened to the original driver? I didn't do anything to it.Thanks!

Try plugging it into a different USB port. Also, I have had problems with running some USB devices through a hub, so try plugging it into a USB port directly on the computer motherboard.

We have a Toshiba external HD and it did the exact same thing! It's annoying to no end!We went to the Toshiba website and had to uninstall and reinstall the drivers and it worked fine after that.Try going to the Hitachi website, http://www.hitachi.com/ and select your current region and then download and update your drivers. Good luck!
