 external hard-drive problem my device is installed on my laptop. I get the 'safely remove hardware' promot but the hard drive isn't showing up in my computer. Is there a problem with the hard drive or the laptop?       |

| external hard-drive problem Its not listed under My Computer? Silly question but have you tried rebooting the laptop after unplugging the external HD and then plugging drive back in again. Thats worked for me once again when my laptop didn't pick up my old HD.

| external hard-drive problem XP on my PC & Vista on my Laptop. When I first plug it in, I get the whole 'mass storage unit' info and then get told it's ready to use and teh drivers have been installed |

| external hard-drive problem Hmm erm so its working fine on your PC but not the laptop. What version of Vista are you using? I have Ultimate on my laptop and I haven't had any problems getting it to recognise my external HDD. Could you perhaps do a screenshot of what it says?

| external hard-drive problem OK well if it doesn't install on either it suggests there is likely to be a problem with the hard drive. Did you buy it new?
